Semiotics, the study of symbols and their use and interpretation, is a fascinating sub-branch of linguistics focused on how people communicate meaningfully. At Semiosis, we believe that the essence of effective communication is at the heart of career success.
When I first founded Semiosis, my vision was clear: to help people communicate in more meaningful ways. With four graduate degrees, I entered the workforce with a PhD and quickly realized that my value wasn’t tied to the symbolic letters after my name. Instead, it was tied to the tangible contributions I made.
At Semiosis, our mission is to help you fully communicate the value you bring to an organization. Your worth extends far beyond what’s listed on your résumé. Yet, recruiters still rely on résumés as the primary tool to assess your potential value.
During my time as a recruiter, I often wondered, “What does this candidate really mean when they list X on their résumé?” This perspective helped me understand each candidate’s context and the unique value they could offer my hiring managers.
Years later, when I faced the challenge of being fired, I realized how crucial it was to make it easy for recruiters and hiring managers to understand the value I could bring. I had to remember my training in semiotics.
